How can i Prepare for GPSc assistant engineer Exam ?
For Preparation of GPSC and GGSPM, Start with civil engineering subjects.
First read theory of any subject (start from theory subjects) from R. S. Khurmi(S. Chand Publication). Mainly questions are asked from Surveying, Building Construction, Fluid Mechanics, Highway, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering ( many questions asked in GES-class 1&2), Irrigation (if in syllabus)
Then try to remember objectives from Atul Publication's Objectives of civil engineering ( R. P. Rethaliya). While solving mcqs read related theorise from subject books(GTU books, mostly written by R. P. Rethaliya haha). In exam they generally ask mcqs related to this theories.
Then, take Ese last years question papers. In recent question papers of GPSC, most question are repeated from ESE. If you can't understand this mcqs, then just try to remember it.
In (structural design) R. C. C, chapter 1 and 2 from Atul Publication book are good and many objectives are asked from it. Also, see relevant IS:456 conditions (references are shown in this book from which page of IS:456 this general requirements are taken, read that article in code). In R. S. khurmi this chapter is taken from old IS codes. But, conditions about flat slab, and other topics are good.
In Waste water engineering read subject book. Gate(GKP publications) are good.
Don't read from R. Agor, nothing is asked from it any more ( my experience). If you have time objectives of civil engineering (Shetty)
Then, take general knowledge. World in Box Publication General knowledge book is good. Try to cover maximum marks in constitution (Bandharan), social and economical geography (Bhugol) . Different gujarati literature related organisations . In history, most questions are asked after 1857 and before Independence.
If you have time then read separate book of each subject of general knowledge(for Constitution - kazi) . But, put this in mind. At the end, you should have enough time to revise whole syllabus (probably 1 month)
Don't put too much imphesis on current affairs . You wont have time for it and after reading many books still you can't score good marks in it. Magazines for current affairs are Libarty, World in box, ICE. But, I would suggest don't do too much preparation in it. No one will score marks in it.

So it is the test to judge the various trade of candidates that how a person is suitable. So they judge the confidence, they judge ability to interact, and they judge presentation and communication skills.
Generally candidates understand and interpreted that it is the test of knowledge but it is not at all the test of knowledge as GPSC board belief that as they have conducted prelims and mains examination so you are sound in the knowledge then only you reach in the interview.
So it is actually a test that how you interact with the board, your ability to handle pressure because in government job when you are going to be then you will be handling lot of stress and pressure.
